Finally the newspaper is back after a month.
After a disappointing showing at Singapore, Sauber were hoping to get back on track after only getting 6 points in the last 4 races. Japan is a classic track and the team were ready to fight off the competition of Lotus. The weekend started off on Friday in a wet practice session. Where Lewis and Nico managed to get 12th and 13th respectively. The rain caused a massive split in times where Manor's Sirotkin managed to end the session with a time of 1:43.248 in 11th place while Lewis who got 12th got a time of 1:49.544.
On Saturday it was qualifying time. Both Lewis and Nico had drove very well in Q1 but only Lewis managed to get himself into Q2. Nico had a very good lap but it just wasn't enough to beat Merhi from Lotus who got the last spot to Q2. In Q2 Lewis once again drove well but just came short of Q3. Only just getting beaten by Hulkenberg from Mercedes. Team Principal /u/HeliconFusion had this to say about Saturdays qualifying: "11th and 15th is pretty good". While Lewis Hamilton was disappointed on missing out on Q3 after a little mistake in S3.
On race day everyone was fired up. Lewis and Nico were very excited to get on the track and keep Lotus behind in the standings. The race started off well with both drivers keeping their positions until Lap 5 when Button overtook Lewis for P11. Meanwhile Nico was busy keeping Perez and Ocon behind. On lap 14 Lewis came in for a pit stop when an tire issue occurred. The front right tire came off, but wouldn't go back on. After some trying Lewis got the information to turn his engine off and retire the car. For Nico it was a very quite race as he drove away from Ocon and Perez who ended up retiring on lap 37. Nico ended up finishing in 11th. It was a very dull race from our perspective with Lewis retiring and Nico having a quite race but the positiv sign from this race was that Lotus had a double DNF which meant Sauber keeps there 3 point lead but Toro Rosso are slowly creeping up on us to.
